The community of Woburn needs and deserves sound barriers. I live on Sendick Road and can hear the traffic always. Not only is my concern about the noise pollution, what about all the emissions? Litter? Accidents? Our families deserve to have the protection from the sound barriers! We pay our taxes, now let the State protect us. I think that the (March 14, 2007 Citizens' Public) meeting went great! My mind was put at ease when I heard Sen. Havern speak. He is so positive and solidly on our side. Thanks to you, the committee, and the elected officials who have worked so diligently for sound barriers. My suggestion was to give everyone more post cards, but I see that you have taken care of that too. I look forward to getting the template and distributing them. - Deanna I have lived right beside 128 for most my life. The noise level has increased so much that we are no longer able to have a conversation in our back yard. Not to mention the safety issues with cars coming off of 128 and into my parents' back yard. If anyone had been in the yard at these times they would have been killed. There have been numerous times that a stranger has knocked on our door because they broke down and needed a phone to call for help or just opened the door and letting themselves in. This is also a safety issue as we don't know who these people are and if they are dangerous. One of the times back in the 70's around 2 AM a van came off of 128 and the person was thrown out of his van over the fence and onto our shed/garage roof, breaking the corner of the roof off. Luckily he survived as he was drunk. But the fence and roof had to be repaired. Then again in 1999 around 4:45 AM a drunk driver came off of 128 and plowed into the chain link fence hitting a tree and the back of our shed and attached garage, he got out of his car and walked down 128 and away from the scene. Minutes later the car and shed and attached garage were in flames, burning the buildings to the ground. Other issues are all the trash that people throw down the embankment, tires, loose trash, beer cans and bottles, trash bags, etc. I also feel that this is a health issue for children and adults. This noise level has increased so much in the last 45 years that it makes me wonder if this is why so many people have a harder time hearing. And what is it doing to our children's hearing? We have neighbors that will not let their children play in their own back yards because of these safety and health issues. Please support the city of Woburn and its citizens with the fight for Sound Barriers. I would like to thank our local and state representatives for all their hard work and support, and the citizens that show up to all the meetings and rallies for this important cause. - Sharon My story goes back to the late 60's and 70's. In the first story my husband and I were cleaning up after entertaining friends. Past midnight we hear a crash--car came off the highway and down our back drive and came to a stop only when it hit boulders. In the 70's I had taken my boys out to do some shopping and came home to fire trucks and police at the top of my back drive. We had a sand pile located there and a car had come off the highway, down the gully, across the drive and THROUGH THE SAND PILE and headed back to the highway before stopping. If my boys had not been out shopping with me then they would have been killed. At the time both these incidents occurred there was only chicken wire between us and the highway. We live on Forest Pk Rd near the overpass and having sound barriers have safety protection as well as noise protection. When my husband moved here from Cambridge in the late 40's he said it was too quiet. Since the state took much of our land for the highway and traffic has increased 100% he claims the city would be less noisy now. GOOD GOING TO OUR REPS WHO NOW ARE CONCERNED WITH US--FIRST TIME SOMEONE CARES - Roberta I am a Woburn resident all my life. Route 128 is right at my front door. The noise is so bad , especially in the summer when I have my windows opened , it's pretty sad I have to blast my television so loud to hear it. I am here at the start of this fight to get the sound barriers and I'm here till we get them!!! Stop The Noise!!! - Jodi Stress the safety aspect ... the title of the web-page should be "safety/sound barriers". We need to put at the forefront the stories of those who had cars falling on them from the highway above; the knocks on the doors from drunk drivers at 3am; the flying objects thrown from the highway; the bio-hazard debris like needles and condoms making their way to personal property from the highway; the added protection needed for when a tanker truck rolls over and other various highway dangers that have, would and will impact those living along the expressway. - William I am a resident of Woburn living near the highway. I love my neighborhood and would enjoy it even more with sound barriers. I appreciate all the time and effort people have put into this project. I hope this effort does not dwindle. We need to continue to fight for barriers! - Paula Thanks for gathering this new consensus & group. As residents of Fisher terrace for 25 years, we knew that the area was in excess of 67dBA 10 years ago- imagine what it is now! We got nowhere as individual citizens then- I hope this group gets some traction. - Mark Hello, I reside off of Alfred Street and would like to be kept informed of the progress toward this cause. I feel that sound barriers are very much needed in this area for several of the reasons that are being supported by this group. Please count me in!! - Lisa Yes, please keep me updated on your future meetings and progress. I would LOVE a sound barrier, as my backyard abuts 93. - Cyndi Thank you for supporting the sound barriers project. We truly hope this happens in the near future. We would love to be updated with future meetings and support this project 100%. Please let us know if there is anything else we (as residents and taxpayers) can do to expedite this sooner! - Paula & Paul Resident of Richard Circle for close to 50 yrs. Would love to have sound barriers so when I'm out in my yard I can talk to my neighbors without yelling over the traffic. Thanks for getting the ball rolling in the right direction. - Diane I am a former Woburn resident but am now in Burlington near 128. We sure hear the noise here. - Rozanne |
