SENATOR HAVERN ANNOUNCES SUCCESSFUL SOUND BARRIER MEETING AT THE STATE HOUSE

May 8, 2007

Sen. Robert Havern, Rep. Patrick Natale, Rep. Jay Kaufman and Rep. Charles Murphy recently hosted local citizens and local officials at The State House to discuss the construction of and funding sources for sound barriers along Routes 93 and 128 in Woburn and Burlington.

The local legislative delegation was impressed with the compelling cases presented by the citizens. “Very rarely do citizens do as much homework on an issue, this is a group that has their act together,” said Senator Havern. Dave Anderson from the Massachusetts Highway Department, environmental representative Kevin Walsh and Jim Leary, the Chief-of-Staff for Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray, were also in attendance to hear the evidence and testimony from the local leaders.

Al Fay, the Chairman of the Burlington Board of Selectmen as well as Woburn Aldermen John Ciriello, James Dwyer and Darlene Mercer-Bruen were also on hand to bring this proposal for sound barriers to the Patrick Administration. Chris Bortlik and Terri Keene from the Woburn and Burlington Sound Barrier Committees, respectively, agreed, “It has been a long time. The time is now to move forward on this.”
