Woburn Sound Barriers

Senate Candidate Meeting

December 12, 2007

On December 5, 2007 the Woburn and Burlington Sound Barrier Committees met with the 3 candidates for Senate: Rep. Jim Marzilli, Brion Cangiamila and Thomas Fallon.

The meeting took place at Woburn City Hall and was attended by more than 50 citizens as well as Woburn Mayor Tom McLaughlin; Woburn Aldermen Jim Dwyer, Darlene Mercer-Bruen, Joanna Gonsalves and Mike Raymond; and Burlington Selectman Gary Gianino. Rep. Jay Kaufman was also in attendance along with George Laite. Due to scheduling conflicts, Rep. Charles Murphy and Rep. Pat Natale were not in attendance but their aides were there on their behalf.

At this meeting we briefed the candidates on our efforts to date and asked them if they would continue with Senator Havern's promise to attach the Transportation Bond Bill to fund Sound Barriers for our communities. Each of the candidates confirmed at the meeting that they support us and that they will help us push this in the Senate.

Rep. Kaufman also reaffirmed his commitment to work together with Reps. Murphy and Natale to file our amendment and help continue to push this issue forward in the House.

We would like to thank everyone for taking the time to meet with us. We would also like to congratulate Rep. Jim Marzilli on his election to the Senate. We look forward to working together with Rep. Marzilli as he moves into his new role in the Senate.

There will be a follow-up meeting in January with the full committee to discuss next steps.

Happy Holidays to all.

Best regards,

Chris Bortlik
